What is BodyBalance, and is it for Me?

If you’ve been daunted by faster-paced classes, then BodyBalance is an ideal way to begin attending group fitness classes. It’s also ideal if you’re looking for stress release, toning and lengthening, plus strength and balance at any level. So what does this class entail?

What exactly is BodyBalance?

BodyBalance is a choreographed Les Mills 55-minute fitness class centred around the principles of Pilates, tai chi and yoga, set to a great soundtrack of popular indie and RnB hits. Participants stand and lie on yoga mats and follow an instructor as they work through various tracks centred on warming up, abdominals and core work, strength, balance and stretching. Music keeps you motivated and in sync, including songs from the likes of Rihanna, Justin Timberlake, Moby and Beyoncè, and playlists and choreography are updated regularly to keep things fresh.

The final track of every BodyBalance class incorporates a few minutes of relaxation and meditation, helping you to let go of everyday tensions. Pilates breathing is also key throughout all exercises so you can draw in oxygen and make the most of every stretch.

What are the benefits?

There are quite a few! This low-impact class is designed to improve your posture, balance, flexibility and core strength. You may well notice weight loss and toning over time. BodyBalance is also great for loosening tight hips, shoulders and legs with a combination of gentle stretches.

Can anybody take part in BodyBalance?

The class is perfect for beginners through to experienced yogis of all ages and fitness levels. It’s also entirely adaptable for pregnant women and those with injuries – simply let your instructor know ahead of class so they can provide alternative options. For many sequences, there are various levels of stretch and complexity so you can choose what works best for you. The more sessions you come to the better your technique, balance and flexibility will be.

What should I wear and bring to my first class?

Come to class wearing stretchy and comfortable workout gear, such as compression tights and a light tank top. You can bring your own yoga mat or use one of ours, as well as a water bottle and towel. You’ll find that you have the best balance and grip with bare feet as you work through the tracks.
